On the 1886 map 422 Van Brunt is a brick building on the north west corner of Van Brunt and Van Dyke.

1870 Census no address Ward 12, "Boyson", age 27, boarding house, born Schleswig (southern Jutland between Germany and Denmark), Nagel, Johannes age 24, bartender, born Schleswig and 22 boarders, including two families, but mostly single men from Germany and Ireland - cooks, machinists, ship's carpenters, sailor blacksmith and other occupations typical of the area, mostly mid twenties to mid thirties in age. Not listed 1870 Brooklyn directory.

1875: On Saturday evening Daniel Dougherty, a night watchman, sixty-four years of age, fll out of a boat while rowing to the steamship Peril, lying in the Atlantic Basin, at the foot of Richards street. He succeeded in swimming ashore, and went to the boarding house kept by Gustavo Boyson, No. 422 Van Brunt street. While going upstairs he slipped and fell. This time he broke his arm. Ambulance Surgeon Fisher was notified, and Dougherty was taken to the Long Island Hospital.

November 12, 1877 Hermann Struck of No. 422 Van Brunt street was arrested for selling three pints of beer to a boy in violation of the excise law.

In 1880 he may have been at Third Ave in Brooklyn: Gustave Boyson age 37, Hotel, born Prussia.
