Tobias Anthony Blanck born May 26, 1973 died March 18, 2007

My son, Toby, was inadvertently responsible for the beginning of my passion for family history and genealogy. Just before Toby's marriage to Ticia Bouchat in 1998 I decided it would be fun to make some sort of a graphic image of their family tree. The information I had at hand was a little imbalanced so I began "a bid of research". I never made the family tree for them. Instead I became impassioned with the study of the families, their occupation, their places of origin, their immigration, and the places they settled. Eventually I built the web site which has been a great joy to me. The Internet has allowed contact with others around the world who are interested in the families, their occupations, or the places they lived.

Toby died in a drowning accident in Tucson, Arizona. He was doing an "underwater swim" - an exercise that he loved and excelled at. Swimming underwater for as long as possible is a routine practiced by almost all swimmers in order to increase their lung capacity. Toby could do four laps of an Olympic pool under water, a fact for which he was very proud. Before diving into the water the underwater swimmer hyperventilates to reduce the CO2 and extend the length of breath-holding. Unfortunately, this can lead to Shallow Water Blackout (latent hypoxia) and death. See Free Diving and Shallow Water Blackout

Toby's issues were complicated by the fact that, unbeknownst to anyone, he had severe coronary artery disease. From the outside he appeared in great shape. He was trim and fit and exercised regularly and vigorously.

We miss him very much. We will always remember: his great big grin, his love of life, his sense of adventure and his ability to encourage others to take a chance in life.
