	Circa 1910 (based on birth [according to the 1920 census] of Helen Eitner) Man in hat (unknown), boy (unknown), Helen Eitner, Christian Petermann Seated woman (unknown), Armin Eitner, Clara Hermann Eitner There are faint red "Xs" on the hands of Helen Eitner, Armin Eitner and Clara Hermann Eitner. On the back of the photo is written in red pencil " Helen Eitner, Mr and Mrs "Armine" Eitner" and in blue "nee Clara Herrmann"

Helen Eitner was the daughter of Armine Eitner and Clara Herrman Eitner. There are other pictures of her in Friends and Relatives of Percy and Meta Land . Clara Herrmann was the daughter of Holine Hermann, the Petermann's housekeeper after Sophie Steuer Petermann died. The Eitners lived in Richmond County, Staten Island. They were listed in the 1920 census: Arman Eitner age 44, born Germany proprietor hotel, Clara age 44 born Germany, Helen age 18 born New York. The 1930 census indicates that Helen marrie Theordore P. Schonhaus and that they had a son Theodore age 7 months. Questions The notations on the back of the photos were made by Diana Wulpern, Anne Petermann Wulpern's daughter. She made notations on some of the photos but not on others. Why? Why did she only note the Eitners and not the other people in the above photo? Who are the other people in the photo?

The young man in these two photos looks very much like Christian Petermann. However, this cannot be. Christian was born in 1883. Based on the clothing these photos were taken no earlier than 1920, when Christian Petermann was 38 years old. The photo of Christian with Percy and Bud circa 1919, shows a middle aged man. These photos are clearly of a young man. Who are these people?

A Summer Walk circa 1905

Five people in this photo are marked with a red pencil. Below the photo on the border is written Thursday July 17, 1919, Fairview Park, in black ink. On the left side of the border in red pencil are written the names Mamie McAra, nee Wulpern, and Robert McAra. On the right side of the border in red pencil are written the names, Diana Wulpern, Helen Land, Billy or Jerry Wulpern.


Wulperns

	"Monticello Ave" "69" I believe that this is Bill Wulpern's father, Henry Wulpern. At the time of their marriage in 1909, both Bill Wulpern and Anne Petermann lived at 72 Monticello Avenue in Jersey City.

This photo was sent as a postcard to Mrs J. Sherry, 64 Monticello Ave, Jersey City. It is dated July 22 Tuxedo Park. However, there is no year marked on it. The message reads Dear Anne, Just a line to let you know that I will start for home tomorrow. Write and let me know how to get down to your place as I will come down some Sunday with papa when I get home. Will tell you all the news when I see you.

A Petermann Cousin

	On back Cris Kruger Cousin of Meta and Anna Petermann Sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s when I was visiting Helen Land with my father, Bud Land. We spent an afternoon looking at her photo albums. At that time I remember seeing a photo or photos similar to this one. Helen and my dad said that it was of a cousin of Meta and Annie. However, when Helen gave me the photos there were no photos of this genre.

The Story of the Photos from Summerville, New Jersey and Ebay

Cynthia Harris, a librarian at the New Jersey Room of the Jersey City Free Public Library, found the photos of Diana and Gerry's graduation classes in an antique store in Summerville, New Jersey. She is interested in documents relating to the Jersey City Public Schools and these photos caught her eye because they were taken at Durstewitz Studio on 338 Central Avenue in Jersey City and were noted on the back, "Grad-Picture from Grammar School". She noted the names to check against the library's records of grammar schools in Jersey City. She found Diana and Jerry enrolled in Jersey City schools in 1923 and 1925. Curious to see if she could find more information on them, she did a web search and found them on my web site.

She sent me an email telling me about the photos. I went to the antique store in Summerville and found several other photos connected to the Wulperns including a 1919 group photo that includes Diana and Gerry and their cousins, Robert McAra and Helen Land.

Several months later Cynthia emailed me to say there were some Wulpern photos on Ebay. I bought those photos plus others from a Joel Streich of Commack, Long Island. He said the photos came out of a house in Hauppague. He had four other photos that came from the same estate which he did not want to sell. One did not inertest me, one I already had a copy of and the other two he kindly let me post on the web site.

I am not a handwriting expert but I have looked at a lot of handwriting in my genealogy research. I believe that the hand writing on the two sets of photos are the same. When I looked up Diana's birth record in New Jersey it turns out that she had made a name change in 1960 from Anna to Diana. The signature on this document is the same as the handwriting on the photos!

Among the photos bought on ebay or which are still in the possession of Joel Streich were two that I already had from Helen Land or Bud Land:
