Lands and Petermanns in Jersey City

The Lands

Law Land and Elzabeth Sykes and their children lived in Jersey City Heights between 1898 and 1899, plus or minus.

There are two records in Jersey City for Law Land:

  1. The death of his son, Frederick, at 12 Floyd Street in Jersey City on February 21, 1898
  2. The birth of his son, Norman, at 72 Griffith Street, Jersey City in January , 1899.

Annie Petermann Wulpern

Annie Petermann was living at 72 Monticello Avenue in Jersey City at the time of her marriage to Bill Wulpern in 1909. They were at 568 Bramhall Avenue, Jersey City at the birth of Diana in 1910 and at 51 Henry Street at the birth of Gerry in 1912.

William Wulpern was listed in the Jersey City directory as follows:

  • 1915 at 257 Griffith Avenue
  • 1918 at 72 Monticello
  • 1922 through 1926 at 143 New York Avenue
  • They had moved to Chatham, New Jersey by 1927 when Diana graduated from high school.

    John Petermann

    John Petermann was listed at 516 Central Avenue in the 1920 Federal Census.

    He was listed in the Jersey City Directory as follows:

    • 1918 at 114 Romaine Avenue
    • 1925/26 at 60 Hancock

    Flloyd, Griffith, New York Avenue, and Hancock are in Jersey City Heights.

    Pershing Field, Jersey City, N.J.

    Pershing Field located at Manhattan, Central, and Summit Avenues on the site of an abandoned reservoir opened in 1919. It contained a track, athletic field, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, wading pool, a children's play ground, a community house, and a pergola. In winter the infield was flooded for ice skating.

    River view Park is between Griffith and Bowers Streets on Ogden Avenue. As the name implies, the park offers a view of the Manhattan skyline and the Hudson River.
