"1852" January 2 - A couple of itinerant vagabonds entered the liquor store of Mr. Cavanagh on Van Brunt Street and offered a shawl for sale. Cavanagh recognized the shawl as belonging to his wife's sister. He "set" someone to watch the shawl sellers while he went to check with his sister in law. Her shawl was missing. By the time Cavanagh returned the watcher had lost sight of the shawl sellers.

Note: This cannot be Peter Cavanagh who was listed in the 1870 census born circa 1840.
