Connection To All Law Pages |
Alice Jackson married Samuel Rouse February 9 1630/31 in Birstall parish. They lived in Little Liveredge where the Rouse family appears to have lived from at least 1588. Alice Jackson and Samuel Rouse were the parents of Alice Rouse who married James Law in 1664. Alice Jackson was born no later than 1610. I did not find an appropriate baptism for Alice Jackson. There were Jacksons in the parish from at least 1561. The Jacksons having children whose baptisms were listed in the parish around the birth of Alice were:

The Name Jackson The Jacksons are listed in both books of the YSS Part I and II. In Part I Redmond says, " Although Jackson is now prolific in all parts of Yorkshire and was widespread even in the 14th century there is no clear evidence for a Bradford origin. There were Jacksons living in Clayton, Thornton and Bradford in 1539, but their connections with one another, or with other Jackson families, have not been established. 1344
In Part II he says, " Son of Jack". The popular pet form of John. The surname had numerous origins in Yorkshire, by the famous Quaker family of Totties in Wooddale had probably been settled in nearby Hepworth form the 14th century. There were certainly Jacksons at Meal Hill in the 1500s and later at Wood Royd, Foster Place and Mount. Henry was a popular baptismal name.
Surnames ending in son are the most common type of English surname.

Jacksons on 1641 Tax list in Gomersall
LDS microfilm #1702202 contains documents relating to the Preston family which were
compiled and transcribed by hand
by William Eastbrook Preston. Among the documents is a list dated 1641 and entitled
"The Names & Surnames of
all such persons as are to be taxed within the Township of Gomersall rated as follows."
This list contains six entries for Jackson:
Since many other entries for men (such as John Jackson and Alice) include a female name next to the entry, it can be inferred that
the name is that of the wife. All the Jackson entries are as listed above. I assume that Henrie, elder, Henrie
younger and John were unmarried or widowed. And that Anne Jackson and Sarah Jackson were also
unmarried or
widowed.
*Henrie elder and ** Henry junior were most likely the Henrys listed in Birstall/Hunsworth.
Henry senior died in 1644 and Henry junior married in 1642.
Henry also had a son named, John and a daughter named, Sarah, who had "bastard" twins in 1645.
Henry elder, Henry younger, John and Sarah were listed next to each other. There was one name seperating
Anne Jackson from Henrie/Henrie/John and Sarah Jackson.
John and Alice were not listed near the other Jacksosn.
Alice and John Jackson are most likely the same
as John & Alice Jackson of Birstall. John Jackson married Alice Robinson in 1638. See John Jackson in Bristall above.
