Walsrode

Dorothe Hogrefe Erxmeyer born circa 1823 and five of her children, (Frederich, Heinrich, Julia, Melosine and Berthe) born between 1843 and 1860 indicated that they were born in or near Walsrode.

" Vorbrück means "vor der Brücke" and that means "in front of the bridge", of course of the river "Böhme", which runs through Walsrode. Vorbrück never belonged to the responsibility of Walsrode (church, administration, police, etc). For example: all Persons of Vorbrück belonged to the Meinerdinger Kirche. The police responsible for Vorbrück was far away, but not in Vorbrück, because it was too small. The rules for living together were not obeyed all the time."

Jeffrey Erxmeyer, July, 2007

In 2005 we visited Walsrode and took some photos.

St. Johannis der Täufer (John the Baptist) was consecrated in 1197. The original church was destroyed by fire and reconstructed on the old foundation in 1482. Other renovations were made over the years and eventually due to the poor condition of the structure the church of the late middle ages was dismantled in 1846.

The church became Lutheran in 1528.

Meinerdingen

The church records indicate that the Erxmeyers were mostly baptized in Meinerdingen. Meinerdingen is a parish church that includes the villages of Honerdingen, Uetzingen and Vorbrück.
