Click on photo to return to Meta and Percy

Bud (Edgar) Land identifided the people in the car as Percy, Arnold, Helen and Meta. Helen was born February 1910. This picture must have been taken the first summer after she was born.

Helen had noted on one of her papers that Percy's first car was "bought about 1911" and on her list of Photos "Our first auto 1912"

Horse and Carriage

There is simply not enought readable information to determine who is in this picture.

This picture and several others were mounted on a cardboard backing. Several of the other pictures mounted in this fashion also became quite faded and unreadable. It may be due to acid in the cardborad.

It is hard to believe that they would have been mounted in such a fashion if the original photo was not in reasonalbly good shape.

July 4, 1920

Bud Land identified the people in the car as: Helen Land, Gerard Wulpern, Allen Land, Diana Wulpern, Anna Peterman Wulpern, Edgar Land, Arnold Land and Meta Petermann Land

Is the date correct? Who did this car belong to? If the car belonged to the Wulperns, the date could be 1920. If the car belonged to the Lands, I believe the picture predates 1919. See the picture of the 1919 car. I also feel that Buddy looks younger than four and a half.

Modern reprint in the collection of Justina Land Leler.

101 North Country Road, Smithtown, Long Island, circa 1919.

One of three pictures of this car. In other picture of this car the bottom line of the licence plate can be read with a magnifying glass. It reads "N.Y. 19".

I believe Allen Land is standing on the running board on the far side of the car. Gerry Wulpern and Diana are sitting on the running board on the near side of the car. Percy is behind the wheel. I can't make out the woman behind him; most likely it is Meta. The woman standing outside the car is Anne Petermann Wulpern. The man standing beside Annie is her brother, Christian Petermann. Christian Petermann is holding Bud (Edgar) Land.

101 North Country Road, Smithtown, Long Island, circa 1919

The bottom line of the licence plate reads "N.Y. 19" which I believe dates the photo.

On a xerored copy of this photo, Bud Land, said this car was the one the family used for the trip to Torento, Canada in 1922. See Canada Trip.

Percy is behind the wheel. There are people in the back seat whose faces cannot be made out.

Bud Land on a xerored copy of this photo identifies: Bill Wulpern sitting on the running board and Christian Petermann standing beside the car.

Justina Land Leler has a modern reprint of this photo.

101 North Country Road, Smithtown, Long Island

On the hill behind the Land's house. One of three photos taken of this car.

Bud Land on a xeroxed copy of this photo identified Arnold, Percy, and Meta Land. There is no indication of the woman in the back seat.

Percy Land and his truck circa 1922.

One of three photos taken of this truck. Helen and Bud Land both said that Percy used this truck to drive his workers to jobs. There are two copies of this photo. On the back of one copy is written "Histrorical Room made copy 4/20/93"

Percy's Truck circa 1922.

Identified by Bud Land on a xeroxed copy as: Arnold Land, Percy Land, and Christian Petermann.

On the side panel of the truck near Christian's sholder it says, "SPEED WAGON" The sign inside the tire reads, " P. A. LAND, BUILDER, SMITHTOWN BR (?), L.I."

Justina Land Leler had a modern reprint of this photo. On the back of her copy is written:

By Helen: "Arnold Land, Percy Land, Christian Petermann"

By Bud Land: "Bus pop used to take his carpentry crews to his jobs years later the truck was converted into a lumber truck for the lumber yard in Saint James."
