Tailor and Dressmaker

My ancestor Catherine Furst Schwarztmeier Lindemann was a dressmaker and her second husband, Julius Lindemann, was a tailor.

The Goehle family were tailors in Herrnsheim, Germany.

"Nine Tailors Make a Man"

Publication and date unknown.

There are multiple interpretations of the meaning of the saying "Nine Tailors Make A Man". The accompanying article for this images is missing but the a part of a phrase says, ".....hearts of the benevolent tailors, who immediately contributed nine shillings for the relief of the little stranger. With this capital the little fellow purchased fruit which....."

Consequently it can be assumed that this illustration is a depiction of an English story of a young beggar who went into a tailor shop. The nine tailors working there took a liking to the young man and each gave him a shilling. When he had made his fortune the young man remembered the tailors by taking the motto, "nine tailors make me a man."
