Masonic Hall, Weston April 11, 1887
          Secretary Trafalgar Lodge, A.F. A. M.
          Dear Sir and Bro.,
I am instructed by W. M. and Brethen of Humber Lodge, A.F. A. M. No. 305, G. R. C. to communicate to you the death of WILLIAM C PARKER said to be a member of your Lodge, with the request that you would bring the matter up at you first Meeting, and send us particulars whether such claim is well-founded, for reasons which will appear further on.
The matter of Bro. Parker's death was as follows. Having been most of the Winter unable to get work at his own calling, and having a wife and three children to provide for, his money being all spent, he gladly accepted work as a labourer on a New Bridge building in the neighborhood and commenced work on the morning of the 5 th inst. Being wholly unused to such work, and only a plank to walk on, 75 feet from the ground, he lost hi s balance and fell the distance named; death being almost instantaneous. He had only been at work about 15 minutes.
The destitute condition of the family being known to our Lodge through Bro. William Ineson, himself a Batley man in whose company deceased visited Humber Lodge once or twice he was otherwise a total stranger to all the Brethren but notwithstanding, although but a stranger, the circumstances demanded the application of the broad charity characteristic of all true Craftsman. Humber Lodge therefore took charge of the funeral and gave the deceased stranger a MasonÕs Funeral, probably them most solemn and impressive that ever entered St PhillipÕs Cemetery. The Brethren are also individually interesting themselves in relieving the wants of the widow who is terribly prostrated. Her friends are said to be in comfortable circumstances in your town; if so her case is one that calls for particular sympathy. Hoping to hear from you by return mail, I am
Respectfully and fraternally yours, JAMES CRUCICKSHANK, Secretary Humber Lodge A. F. A. M. Weston, P.O. Ontario, Canada,

In 1803 they were "reviewed on the Town Moor by the Right Honorable the Earl FitzWilliam. The Regiment marched on the 27th May to York."13 Later in the year they were at the Coxheath Encampment, being reviewed on Thursday 30th August by the Earl of Chatham; "the leisure hours allowed the men were employed in the various amusements of cricket, balls, races etc. On Friday August 31st ... a grand Cricket Match."14 In 1806 they were stationed at Hull, marching from there on April 29th on route for Darlington and Durham. By Friday October 3rd they were leaving Newcastle for Sunderland. They appear to have been stationed here for a year, marching on Monday October 12th 1807 on their route to Liverpool. In November 1808 they were quartered at Norman Cross Barracks. Ireland seems to have been the next destination, and in 1813 "The 3rd West York Militia were inspected at Cove, and forts in Cork Harbour ... before the departure from Ireland." "My Father came from Mirfield. He started a most successful woollen mill here in the mid 30s, Geo. Sheard Fabrics Ltd. which is still going under the care of my children, so it may be nice to know that although the woollen industry is long gone from the West Riding, its progeny is still in existence in a distant clime.Geo Sheard Fabrics
